Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have sadly cancelled all of our VE Day 75 events. We will be rescheduling as much as we can when it is safe to do so.

POSTPONED - VE Day 75: Free Community Street Party

Friday 8 May 2020, 12pm – 5pm

Join us for Brighton’s VE Day celebration at the home of Take Shelter. The day will be packed with activities all the family

  • Be part of our street party lunch (pre-bookable lunch boxes available from here)
  • Take part in our wartime themed activities from ‘Make Do & Mend’ and ‘Dig for Victory’ to ‘Wartime Childhood’ and ‘Ration Book Snacks’
  • Meet our veterans and hear their wartime stories
  • Listen to our wartime themed short talks
  • Sing along to wartime songs with our schools choirs
  • Find out more about Brighton during the war from our wartime museum
  • Visit our vintage fair and have a go at our many family friendly games
  • Tour our original air raid shelter (tickets available from Brighton Fringe).
  • Café with hot and cold refreshment and light bites
  • Licensed bar available

POSTPONED - VE Day 75: Musical Celebration, 7pm - 10pm

Friday 8 May, 7pm – 10pm

Come and celebrate VE Day 75 with an evening of wartime inspired music and entertainment with your host swinging DJ Jivin’ Jim Dandy. Highlights of our bill are:

  • Singing sweethearts Rogers and Redmond
  • The smooth sounds of the Soultastics
  • Big Band and rousing sounds of Patcham Silver Band
  • 1940s themed licensed bar serving local tipples and cocktails
  • Food stalls including BBQ and Creperie

All tickets £5 – no concessions – available from Brighton Fringe.

Step back in time and experience what it was like to be a child in Brighton during the Second World War. Come and explore the only school air raid shelter open to the public in the UK. Tours of the air raid shelter and museum last 40 minutes. Tickets available from Brighton Fringe.
