NEW ONLINE RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS – book now
Bring Take Shelter into your Classroom
Until the COVID-19 restrictions ease we are unable to host schools at the shelter, but you can bring the Take Shelter experience into your classroom with our new online wartime resources.
PART 1 – Themed online resources
Explore our seven themes: Rationing, Evacuees, Air Raid Shelters, Air Raids, Gas Masks, Fashion and Women at War. Each theme is packed with information, original documents and rare photographs, and a series of original films introducing the Take Shelter veterans as they share their first hand experiences and knowledge of wartime life.
PART 2: Live Q&A session with a Take Shelter veteran
Each school has the special opportunity to have a live Q&A session where pupils can meet our Take Shelter veterans and ask them their own questions.
These new resources have been made possible by the kind support of the South Downs National Park Authority

We are fundraising to build a new accessible entrance to the shelter. Click here for more information.

During the war every school had its own shelter. Today the only school shelter open to the public in the UK is at Downs Junior School in Brighton. Click here for more information.
